Dar Yasmine
A hushed retreat behind high ochre walls, built around a courtyard pool that glows with lanterns after dark. The rooftop breakfast over the medina is the standout; ask for a room away from the bar if you're an early sleeper.
I'm Sabrina Kalea. For seven years I've slept in the rooms, tested the service and paid my own bills — so you can book boutique and luxury stays with no surprises.
Every review here begins with a real reservation. No press junkets, no ghost-written blurbs — just honest nights spent in each hotel, scored the same way, every time.
— Sabrina Kalea, Founder & Editor. I review boutique and luxury hotels for travellers who care as much about the small details as the headline view.
Each hotel is scored out of 10 across location, room, service, food and value. Here are six of my most-read reviews this season.

8.8
A restored garden villa a short walk from Galle Fort, all teak floors and shuttered doors onto the greenery. Mornings are birdsong and warm pol roti; just know the beach is a short tuk-tuk ride away rather than on the doorstep.
8.9
A low, contemporary hideaway set into the cliffs above a quiet cove, all clean lines and sea light. The infinity pool at dusk is worth the trip on its own; the restaurant is still finding its feet, so it's worth wandering into the village for dinner.
9.1
Thatched pavilions scattered through the palms beneath Krabi's limestone cliffs, around a lagoon pool that catches the afternoon light. It's blissfully quiet; the trade-off is that you'll want a boat transfer to reach the best beaches.
9.1
Dark-timber suites open onto a private planted courtyard, with a deep soaking tub and a robe you won't want to give back. Service is warm and unhurried; the only catch is the steep valley road, so it's worth arranging the driver in advance.
9.6
The beach villas earn the price: your own stretch of sand, an infinity pool that melts into the lagoon and a house reef a few fins away. Half-board is worth taking — the island is remote and the kitchen is genuinely good.
Every stay is scored against the same five things, so a 9 in Lisbon means the same as a 9 in the Maldives. No hotel sees the score before it's published, and nothing here is a paid placement.
Setting, views and how easy it is to reach the things you came for.
Comfort, quiet, the bed, the bathroom and how well the space is designed.
Warmth and competence — anticipating needs without ever crowding you.
Breakfast first, then the restaurant and the drinks that keep you in.
What you actually get for the rate — including the extras nobody mentions.

From the medinas of Marrakech to the lagoons of the Maldives, the collection keeps growing. A few of the regions I return to most.
I started this journal in 2019 after one too many glossy write-ups that had clearly never spent a night in the room. My rule has never changed: I book anonymously, I pay my own way, and I write what I'd tell a close friend.
That's the whole business — a small, independent team and a lot of honest nights.
